District Courts handle cases about divorce, custody, name changes, and more. If you need a lawyer, there are resources to help you find one and understand your legal issues. You can find various legal forms and resources online to assist with family law problems. Washoe County Resource Center offers help with court processes and provides free legal resources for those representing themselves in Family Court.

  • Family Resource Center Programs
    From the website, "Family Resource Centers (FRCs) provide case management, information, and referrals for individuals and families in need of assistance in accessing services and programs that will strengthen and support the family."
  • Find a Nevada District Court
    District Court judges hear cases related to divorce, custody matters, name changes, guardianships, adoptions, and other types of cases.
  • Nevada Forms
    This guide offers a starting point for Nevada legal forms but is not exhaustive. Forms provide examples of content and style, but requirements vary by court. Contact the Clerk of the Court for specific formatting, content, and procedural guidelines.
  • Nevada Legal Kiosk - Family Problems
    Links to resources available from the State of Nevada Self-Help Center, Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, Nevada Legal Services, the Clark County Family Law Self-Help Center, videos in English and Spanish for people representing themselves from the Eighth Judicial District Court, and family forms from the Second Judicial Court.

  • Nevada Legal Kiosk - Free (Pro Bono) Legal Help
    There are organizations in Nevada that offer free legal help. They help people who meet their income or age limits and also provide legal information through events, classes, and websites.
  • Nevada Legal Kiosk - Hiring an Attorney
    If you don’t qualify for free legal help and need to hire a lawyer but don’t know one, the State Bar of Nevada Lawyer Referral Service can connect you with an attorney.
  • Nevada Legal Kiosk - Self-Help Center & Forms
    Self-Help Centers give you legal information and forms. They don’t provide a lawyer or legal advice but can explain which forms you need and how to file them.
  • State Bar of Nevada Lawyer Referral Service
    This is a free service from the State Bar of Nevada that helps people find lawyers.
  • Washoe County Law Library's Lawyer in the Library
    You can sign up for a 15-minute session to talk to a lawyer about Family, General, Landlord/Tenant, or Probate Law. Call the Law Library at 775-328-3250 or email LawLibrary@washoecourts.us. The lawyers are volunteers, so they won’t represent you, and you shouldn’t contact them after the appointment. There is no attorney-client relationship.

Certified Copy of Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS)

The Legislative Counsel Bureau publishes the NRS, so requests for certified copies of the NRS need to be made through LCB Publications. Their email address is publications@lcb.state.nv.us. 


Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate or Divorce Decree

If you need a certified copy of your marriage certificate or divorce decree, please contact the county where your marriage took place.
