The Nevada Supreme Court Law Library can help you find legal information and show you how to use it. They cannot give legal advice, explain what laws mean, or pick forms for you. If you give them a correct citation, they can send you the documents, but they cannot search for them for you. For prisoners, the library can answer criminal law requests and send materials after payment. The library also follows copyright rules and cannot provide legal advice or government forms.
What We CAN Do | What We CANNOT Do |
---|---|
Make referrals to proper agencies and legal service providers | Give legal advice. This is usually any question that includes the phrases "can I?" or "should I" or "am I interpreting ___ correctly?" or "how do I?" |
Direct public to sources of law and forms | Interpret statutes, cases, or regulations |
Instruct how to use legal materials | Offer opinions on legal issues |
Explain format requirements for pleadings | Select specific forms and/or instruct you on what you should put in those forms |
Locate informative reading materials | Make referrals for specific attorneys |
Provide a limited numbers of cases, statutes, and/or regulations via email, when you provide us with the citations | Perform legal research for you. We cannot answer, "can you help me find cases on landlord/tenant law?" However, we can tell you how to do this type of research yourself. |
The Law Library is available to provide scanned copies of the official Nevada Reports and historical sections of Nevada statutes and the Nevada Administrative Code (NAC). We will also provide portions of secondary sources we have in our print collection.
The Law Library reserves the right to modify or not fulfill document delivery requests if such requests violate United States copyright law.
Reference Requests: The Supreme Court of Nevada Law Library answers reference requests from prisoners related to criminal law, received through mail or inmate banking. Only Nevada-related requests are answered, including those from out-of-state prisoners. Requests must be specific to be processed.
Inmate Banking Requests: Requests via inmate banking are processed within 1-2 days. There is no postage fee, but the prisoner’s account will be charged at the end of the fiscal year for all pages. To use inmate banking, contact the institution’s law library for the request form.
Mail Requests: After receiving a request, library staff will provide an estimated cost for pages and postage. Payment is required before processing, with costs at $0.10 per page. The first 10 pages (double-sided) are free. Requests may take up to 2 weeks to process. Payments should be made by check or money order to the Supreme Court of Nevada Law Library.
