The Nevada Supreme Court Law Library has over 100,000 volumes or volume equivalents consisting of primary and secondary authority. The Law Library’s most comprehensive collection focuses on Nevada law. The Library has current and archival collections of all state statutes and case law, as well as a core collection of treatises. The library helps the Nevada Supreme Court, the Legislature, the Office of the Attorney General, other government agencies, local lawyers, and the public. You can borrow up to 10 items at a time for two weeks, with three automatic renewals.
Items from the collection can also be borrowed using interlibrary loan. Please contact your local public or college library for more information on interlibrary loan services.
The Law Library has an online catalog that helps you find specific books in the collection. It also helps you find e-books in the LexisNexis Digital Library e-books and other online resources like HeinOnline and VitalLaw (these can only be accessed in-person at the library).
A significant portion of the Nevada Supreme Court Law Library's (NSCLL) collection is available in microform formats, which include both microfilm and microfiche.
The microform collection houses court case records from the Nevada Supreme Court Clerk's Office, spanning cases numbered 1 through 34561. These records include case opinions, briefs, and exhibits.
As part of an Access to Justice initiative, the law library has partnered with the William S. Hein company to digitize closed Nevada case files from 1862-1999. This endeavor was made possible through federal funding received from the American Rescue Plan Act, Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds. The digital case files are available onsite at the law library from the 1980s-1999 and organized by case number, year, or searchable by keyword (prior years are added every month). It is estimated that this project will be complete by the end of 2025. During the interim, cases filed before 1937 are available at the Nevada State Library & Archives and cases filed after 2006 can be found on the Appellate Case Management System. Please contact the law library at reference@nvcourts.nv.gov for more information.
Additionally, the library’s microform collection contains Nevada Legislative materials, such as bill histories, committee minutes, and exhibits from sessions held between 1965 and 2005. These materials are organized by year (sessions run every odd year with possible special sessions in between) and then alphabetically by Assembly and Senate committees.
If you need assistance locating or accessing documents, please contact the NSCLL at reference@nvcourts.nv.gov or call 775-684-1640. Staff members can retrieve the requested microforms for use in the Law Library. For specific document requests, staff can scan and email up to 10 double-sided pages.
The microform reader at the Law Library is available for free use. Please visit the Reference Desk for help with using the machine.
